A while ago, a friend who used to live in U.S. complained that she had nearly ZERO public transport where she stayed, and without a car it was impossible to get alone.

Private bus companies did run an occasional service, but tickets were expensive and service terrible.

My friend had a baby there. There was no paid maternity leave or child support.

Public service was at times dismal - bureaucracy and red tape got in the way of healthcare, funding, and getting a lot of things done.

It made me very sad to hear all this. Linkspam on how America can be backwards compared to other countries - and it's not because I'm comparing it with Europe. So many parts of Asia too is way ahead already on this matter.

And yet America operates as if it's the number 1 superpower in the world.

Agree with this one - manners of folks. (I've had a lot of this with customer service and trying to get help in US. Add it to the fact that many Americans i've run into just don't know much about the world outside of America. More education is needed.
